Photos by Tone
When someone does something really well, I feel props are in order, and Tone deserves a lot of props. His portraits have a weird way of genuinely capturing the attitude of situations and people.

Not even gonna lie, I want a job just so I can afford to buy each new issue of Antenna.
Viewing Experience: Star Trek
I finally feel upon the opportunity to witness the new J.J. Abrams "Star Trek" film. Now I must admit I had my hopes low for this remake, even though my prior knowledge of the Enterprise Crew was limited to the smallest of pop culture such as a Futurama episode or two. Most remakes just don't entertain due to their grip on the past subject matter. I know most fan boys will get hot headed if even one thing in out of place, but a good remake or translation from one media to another must make a couple of small changes.
This is just an assumption, but I believe Abrams took the opportunity for changes and put them directly in the plot of the story. As said before I don't know how the characters of the original program interacted, but I'm pretty sure in my own mind that the crew was a little more respectful of Captain Kirk from the start of the first episode. Instead, the movie's Kirk has to earn his respect from wisecracking know it all that most everyone dislikes to his head position of his ship, which not only makes for a good rise from adolescents story as well as an alternate reality story, anybody who has seen the movie knows this too well.
In terms of action, the movie certainly does not fail. Within the first few minutes audiences are presented great explosions of outerspace battles, and are even able to witness the most horrible of deaths in my opinion; being sucked through a hole of a ship into the cold airless vacuum of the unknown. Ain't that some scary shit. The acting also is up to par with all good performances especially from Pine, Pegg, and the guy who played Spock.
All in all, Abram's Star Trek is very entertaining, and even makes me want to view the old episodes. Note I said almost....oh wait I didn't.....well now I have.

Been Away for a While
Sorry for the hiatus, but I've had a crazy past weeks. My technology has been failing to the point where I think it's a "simultaneous breakage point", but I'm about to get over that foothill soon. Once that is overcame, a bigger mountain of looking and getting a job is presented. Even though the job discussion is not the prime subject at hand, I just want to say that will be conqoured in some way before summer's done.
First off biggest change so far is the hair. Ever since I chopped off the hair last Sunday, I've been feeling great. A weight has been lifted off of my shoulders and neck literally. I've also found that when you change your appearance in a way unexpected, it gets the best reactions. Most people c0uldn't even imagine me at my present state, but it feels so good just to make a change of appearance. I must say I do look devilshy handsome too.
Another great thing about the summer is the clique being back together. Some stayed around the city like Thara and I, but most everybody else went a little bit out of town if not to a whole different region of the U.S. Monai for example went to Valdosta, and to say I have no idea how it is out there would be a understatement. This is the the basic crew on most nights though. Thara, Pash, Monai, DJ, and I are bout to take over the world I can bet you that.
The main reason I've been gone away from the blog was my recent visit to New Orleans to see the family and where I was born and raised. Everytime I return to my birthplace, I'm reminded of the beauty that is not present anywhere else. There's that one feeling where even though things are so wrong in the wideview, but feels so right in your heart, and I've never felt it stronger than in New Orleans. When the heart feels right the next best thing is to get the stomach feeling full, and where's a better place to do that than a city that offers snoballs with flavors like "Tiger's Blood" "Silver Fox", and bout 50 more. Just thinking about it is getting me all hungry. I can't wait to go back in July for the one year anniversary of my baby boy.
Now this right here is EXTREMELY special. This is the first St. Augustine Varsity Jacket given to my grandfather, Elliot Labat Sr, in 1949 if I'm not mistaken. My eyes opened up wide as I saw it's purple material, and the first thing to mind was "I gotta have it". Too bad it's going up in the Hall of Fame. I know it's honorable, but I would defiantly love to repair the seams and rock it out like it's brand new. Guess I'll have to wait till I use it as inspiration. That day will be great.

That One Moment
When was the next time i would run down the street in the rain with a bag of my own hair in tow?
Yelawolf Boxchevy
Yelawolf opened up for Bobby Ray last night, and got the building hyped as hell with all the monkeys in the front bouncing. Some were even hanging from the raptors. This track is a little bit more relaxed though. Good for the day ya know.
FS Jets Trademark presents Da Skydiver Issue #1
My second(maybe third after Roddy) favorite member of Fly Society recently dropped a new mixtape to keep the summer music vibing. This is what you would expect from the Jets, and is very much original, creative, and damn tight. Everybody gotta hear this.
Look at all the Lonely People
BOB -Lonely People - I've come to the realization that no matter how close you may feel to your friends, no one person knows everything going through somebody's mind. Even if your friends tell you everything on their minds, you still won't truly know the thoughts and perceptions, and the truth is you will never truly know. As scary as that may seem for those paranoid ones who need to know that "haters" aren't talking shit about them, these people know damn well that they don't really wanna know how people feel about them. That would most likely destroy whole world views. To be honest with you I'm one of those paranoid types, and not just with people. Pessimism is a hell of a world is all I'm saying about myself.
My best friend and girl friend told me the one thing that made me feel so much better though, "I know you hear this all the time but stop worrying about what they think. If they ain't your family or ain't about to give you a job, fuck them." This brings up another problem though. At the age I'm in, I'm still somewhat afraid to talk to family figures about important subjects most likely due to the subject seems to taboo to talk to more knowledgeable minds. It is much easier to talk to a peer since we feel more understood by them, but isn't this a wee reversed. Family should know a lot more about your life than your friends do, ya know with living with them and all.
I'm kinda losing steam on this right now because I'm getting a stomach pain that's just plain annoying so to wrap it up, no one understands anyone. That sense of feeling understood is more so a comfort blanket more than a reality. Oh and for all my friends on here that know me personally, I'm cutting my hair after the next time I see my baby Liz so she can play in it one last time. It's time for a change.

This is a pretty tight hat. Hope they make it in a 8. Process are basically 2/2 with really well designed caps when you count the first collab they had with Estate.

Cam'ron Cookies and Applejuice/ Silky
Cam kinda went crazy with this here. Girls everywhere, and the stripper type too. Good healthy girls.
Black Motorcycle History
I found this on Kanye West Blog and it's pretty interesting. Really inspiring stuff both philosophily and aesthetically. Ya'll know me. It talks about the East Bay Motorcycle Club(the first black motorcycle club), Bessie Stringfield, and how the "extended fork is a black thing". Really good stuff.

Future Street/Drug Sounds
This shit right here has to be one of the dopest compilation of music I've heard since listening to "Gone Fishing", and yeah I know that was this morning. Dom definitely has an influence of Cool Style jazz, that is reflected not only through his choice of production, but also his style. This is something the west coast has always been able to do, but with the new blood rising in hip hop a revolution is occurring, and Dom Kennedy is one of the creams of the crop. If you don't believe me, let the music do the talking. Download for your mental health my nigs. LINK

Cool Kids X Don Cannon: Gone Fishin
I've been waiting for this since I heard about it through Standard, and also missed that fucking party that I paid 30 in advance for. LINK
So I'm sitting here playing COD4, and listening to this dope mixtape on repeat, and at this point I don't know how many times it's gone full circle on the playlist. The last time that this occurred was when I bought Hell Hath No Fury, and played Need for Speed a whole night just listening to the Clipse. The element that draws my attention to this material is the sophistication of beats, and it may be the addition of Don Cannon to the formula may have somewhat perfected Cool Kids own evolution of style. I remember some tracks from the duo last year that sounded similar to this, but still lingered on their usual style of hard bop hip hop with drums that sounded as if the cymbal crashed your head. The tracks featured on "Gone Fishin" substitute a hint of southern style "chill" music with a hint(I use hint loosely) of stoner for the party music on "The Bake Sale". Another good note; Mr. Money Machine uses his usual ad libs comparatively less than his older mixtapes. I wanna submit Don Cannon as DJ of the year for 09 though. I'm calling it right now.
